It's been about two years since Sivan released his sophomore album Bloom to extensive critical and commercial success. After doing some collaborations with Lauv, Charli XCX, and earning a Golden Globe Nomination for his song ‘Revelation’ which appeared in the film Boy Erased in 2018, the Australian pop superstar is finally making his musical comeback with his melancholic dance track 'Take Yourself Home'.

The new single starts off with nothing but an acoustic guitar and backing vocals to accompany Troye while singing the lyricsI'm tired of the city, scream if you're with me/

If I'm gonna die, let's die somewhere pretty,’. The songs haunting chorus and catchy upbeat melody follows an tropical house like outro that describes Sivan’s chaotic state of mind perfectly.

“‘Take Yourself Home’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written,” the ‘Bloom’- singer said in a statement. “The song is kind of a pep talk with yourself and the place you’re from. Grappling with your place in the world. I write these songs as a diary entry, then as life and places change and relationships change, songs can take on a new meaning entirely. Clearly that has happened for this song, with what is going on in the world right now.”

Two weeks ago the Australian singer teased his return to music to his 11 million Instagram followers in form of cryptic photos where Sivan encourages freelance artists, who have struggled to find work in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, to submit their work to help the singer to promote his new music.

Following the song's release, Sivan shared on Instagram, "This was a really scary moment for me - being this honest with myself about my happiness and my life and the way all the pieces fit together, or don't. Just like a moment of dude..what r u doing. This isn't working anymore. Go home. Go be with ur family. Dance. Write music. Be with ur friends who have known u since u were 2. Reevaluate.” - On top of that the queer pop sensation has also launched three t-shirts which all proceeds to be donated to WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and Spotify’s COVID-19 Music Relief project.

Along with the track, Troye has released a lyric video where you see a 3D animated version of the singer standing on the edge of a skyscraper,

'Take Yourself Home', which was co-written with Leland, Tayla Parx and Oscar Görres, shows a more experimental and darker side to Troye’s signature colorful upbeat pop persona and is set to be the first single of Sivan’s third studio album, which will be released later this year.
